Who are we?

We are Steve and Janice Gosson and we have owned Mallams since 1990 when we came here having sold our first restaurant in Surrey. The plan was to stay here for five years (!). The best laid plans and all that.

Steve trained for a career in the catering industry at what is now Brookes University in Oxford. He completed his training in Switzerland before returning to England to commence his career. He has had extensive experience in country house hotels, a very enjoyable time in the airline business, ending his time as an employee working for Philips. Then the world of self employment beckoned when we met and started our first business together.

Janice started out in retail management working for what was Dickins and Jones in Regent Street sadly, recently closed, before going onto work for Top Shop and Horne Brothers, also no longer in existence. When Janice met Steve he told her that running a restaurant would be easier than working for other people as they would only work in the evenings and she believed him!! Our passion is food and we never lose interest in it or stop learning about it.

Now it seems that daughter Lauren is following in our footsteps. Having grown up in the restaurant business she is studying for a Hospitality degree at Bournemouth University.

We have enjoyed meeting and serving guests from all over the world since 1990. We have played host to weddings, birthdays, family get togethers and celebrations, business meetings and people just out to have a great meal. Why not experience our hospitality soon? We look forward to meeting you.
